Disabilities, Assistance Animals, and Dangerous Breeds

What are the landlord’s responsibilities if a disabled person makes a reasonable accommodation request to have a dog, but the dog is one considered a dangerous breed and not allowed under your insurance policy?

According to HUD, you are not required to honor the request because it would cause an unreasonable financial burden on you. You must be able to document that your insurance company would cancel your insurance or raise your rates.  You should include that fact in your written response denying the reasonable accommodation request.
